Introduction
I have chosen to do a redesign of an app called Woodify, and specifically the version of it tailored to Skedsmo Crosfit Club and the gym members there as the target group, with the intention to improve the user experience and the booking system.
Background
I go to a Crossfit gym and have recently heard many fellow gym members talk about how the Gym’s booking app app could be improved. There is a lot of people canceling their 6 am booking right before going to bed at around 23:00, and taking away the opportunity to join for people on the waiting list. This is just an example of one issue raised by users, where several had ideas for how the app could alleviate this and other issues.
Process
Empathise
During this stage I did a literary review, created a survey and did interviews to learn about the users and understand how the app could be changed to suit their needs and goals.
Define
In this part of the project I analysed and synthesised, the research findings using affinity and empathy mapping, to uncover insights and create recommendations for the creation of personas, user scenario, POV, problem, vision statement and HMW questions. I wanted to define the key pain points and areas of improvement for the app.
Ideate
During the ideation session I did brain- and sketchstorming to quickly come up with lots of divergent ideas that could converge into source material for the sketches and wireframes.
Prototype
The low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes were created in Figma and based on the personas and other elements crated during the define phase, as well as ideas and sketches emerging during the ideation phase.
Test
The high-fidelity prototype was used in combination with Useberry during usability testing which employed remote and unmoderated testing, as well as in-person/remote and moderated testing.
Problem statement
“The gym members at Skedsmo Crossfit Club who struggle with booking appointments and signing in on time, remembering their workouts when filling in results and/or understanding the workout programs need Wodify to be redesigned to alleviate the mental load and to give them more enjoyable fitness experiences.”
Results
The results showed an overall improved user experience, and users commented that they liked the feature that allowed them to get notified when the booking of a class opened.
The users liked the new aesthetics and found the app to be more dynamic and user friendly.
Reflection
I really improved my skills with prototyping in Figma during this project. However, I would have made the tasks instructions easier to understand, because there was a large misclick rate for several tasks, due to me asking the user to complete more than one action per task. Such as log in and go through on-boarding. I would also have made the designed a bit more sleek and minimalistic.
